What is a high-resolution PIJ date coder?
A high-resolution PIJ (piezoelectric inkjet) date coder uses a piezoelectric printhead to jet ink droplets directly onto the product, printing multi-line, high-resolution text and graphics in one pass. The Better Code S5082 comes with two printhead options: the 7SA, printing up to 108.3 mm high at 360 dpi with 7-level grayscale for large corrugated cartons, and the 7TA, printing 53.9 mm high at 600 dpi. Both use nozzle-level ink recirculation to reduce nozzle clogging caused by air bubbles and ink sedimentation.

What does nozzle-level
ink recirculation do?
Ink keeps flowing through the nozzles
Ink circulates not only in the ink path but all the way through the nozzles, so it does not sit still at the printhead face.
Removes air bubbles and impurities
As it circulates, the ink carries tiny air bubbles and impurities out of the ink path and nozzles, letting the system restore optimal printing conditions by itself and reducing downtime for print-quality issues and maintenance.
Less sedimentation and clogging
Ideal for high-solid-content inks such as pigment white ink, which commonly suffer from sedimentation, clogging, unstable printing and frequent maintenance.

What can a PIJ
coder print on?
Choose ink by substrate: porous surfaces such as kraft cartons use oil-based ink; non-porous surfaces such as laminated cartons use UV ink with a UV lamp.
Print directly on the carton
A Windows print driver lets the system work with a range of label design software, so data you used to put on labels can be printed straight onto the carton.
Change templates instantly
The brochure states that the overall cost is much lower than labels, with more flexibility to edit content and change templates during production.
