How to Choose a Date Coding Printer for Water Bottles
Water bottling lines need clear manufacturing dates, expiry dates and lot numbers. Choose the coder from bottle material, moisture at the printing point, message layout and actual line speed.
Match the technology to the production method
Handheld printing can be considered for batch jobs where the operator can control placement. Continuous lines often start with CIJ because it prints without contact on curved surfaces. CO₂ laser is an ink-free alternative for suitable PET bottles, subject to material trials.
Assess the surface at the printing point
A dry empty bottle can behave differently from a filled, chilled bottle. Tell the technical team whether condensation is present before printing and what happens afterwards. Ink selection, surface preparation or a different print location may be necessary.
Compare FASTJET F640 and F650
The F640 supports up to a 25-dot matrix and up to three lines in supported formats. The F650 supports up to 34 dots and four lines in the specified 7×5 format, with an additional High Speed mode. Test the required message at your actual production speed before choosing.
Plan the installation
Provide bottle photos or samples, print position, text, conveyor speed and product spacing. A production video helps assess brackets, triggering and access for maintenance. Keep the printhead distance stable and ensure the code remains visible after packing.
Check the finished code
Test adhesion, clarity and readability after the intended storage and transport conditions. The factory's quality team must approve the date format and shelf-life calculation; printer capability does not determine product shelf life.
